PREVIOUS NEWS:

My highlights for this term academically are receiving an A for Xhosa first additional language, which I only started this year. I also received and A for Economics and Management Sciences. Although I’m not satisfied with my Mathematics marks for this term and I will certainly be working harder next term.

My challenge academically for this term was Maths. I am having difficulties with meeting the demands of the subject. I have definitely not experienced challenges socially as I have a good circle of friends and I have adapted very well to my school environment.

I have developed and grown socially and academically. My results were pleasing but could be improved.

I am setting myself quite a few goals, but the one goal that I want to focus on is improving my Maths result.

During the holidays I will be doing my 3 assignments which are due next term.

The scholarship means a lot to me as without it I have no idea what I would be. I am very grateful.

LATEST NEWS:

As I look back at the term that has just come and gone, I realize once again how lucky I am to be sitting in position with a scholarship to one of South Africa’s best school. The opportunities that are given to me, as a student of St Cyprian’s, are overwhelming and are more than I could ever have gotten if I had gone to any other school.

Over the past term I have really tried to improve my results and also my relationship with my teachers, so that I could get a better understanding of the subjects I have chosen to do in my final year at St. Cyprian’s School. My Subjects that I have taken up are: English Home Language Mathematics, Afrikaans 1st Additional Language, Consumer Studies, Dramatic Arts, Life Science and Life Orientation. The subjects I enjoy most would be Dramatic Arts and Consumer Studies. These two subjects I enjoy because they are both different to any other subjects and each have specific qualities I enjoy. Dramatic Arts are only found at a few schools and if I hadn’t been attending St. Cyprian’s School I ould have never discovered my love for acting and movement. Consumer Studies is a unique experience because we study many different things in this one subject, for example: Interior Design how to budget, the rights of a consumer.  Yes and we also get the opportunity to bake or cook a few times in the term.

The other subjects, namely,English, Afrikaans, Life Science, Mathematics and Life Orientation, am still learning to enjoy and find things I enjoy about each subject.

At St. Cyprian’s School during the third term, many different events took place. During the third term I was elected to be on the executive committee of TAP (The AIDS Project). The executive committee consisted of 15 students, 3 from each grade. We had to organize a day were we would get a speaker to address the High School about AIDS, make sure the famous School cake was baked and would be enough for the whole school. The whole point of this day was to make the everyone at school more aware of AIDS which is killing so many people.

Every year the grade 10s put on a variety show / fashion show. Last year when I was in grade 10 I never modelled but instead helped backstage. This year the grade 10s requested three grade 11s to be the hosts of the show and I was asked by the teacher in charge to be of the hosts of the show. In order to be the character,I had to wear a red wig and my character was a female who thought that she had arrived at Cape Town Fashion week but instead landed up at the St. Cyprian’s fashion show, drunk! It was rather hard at first to be this character, but with practice the character soon become a part of me.

Over the few years I have been attending St. Cyprian’s School, I have been part of the Senior School Choir and in terms 1, 2 and 4 this year we have practiced once a week for approximately 1 hour. During the third term the Choir rehearsals increased because term three is known as St. Cyprian’s term. The reason it’s called that is because during this term my school has it’s birthday. This year is was on the 25th September and the school turned 137 years old. This year it was an extra-special occasion because it was the first time our new headmistress Mrs. Rehilnghys, was attending the function as the official headmistress of St. Cyprian’s School.

St. Cyprians Day usually entails the school to meet on the hockey field and arrange themselves in height order, as soon as that’s done, the whole school, from the grade1s to the grade 12s all walk down to St Georges Cathedral for a service which usually lasts for 1 hour. Then we head back to school to dance around the cypress tree, whilst enjoying the famous cakes of the kitchen staff.

I would like to thank Kay Mason Foundation and my sponsor for giving me the opportunity to complete my schooling at such an amazing school, St. Cyprian’s.
