WHO I AM:

Hi there....

My name is Tshepiso Manyaapelo. I am 13 years old and I’ll be turning 14 in 26th of September. Many people know me as Swanky. I have 2 sisters, my big sister is turning 20 this year December and my younger sister Boitumelo is 6 years old. She is at Norma Road Primary. I live at NY 21-241 in Gugulethu with my mother and sisters. My mother is Mpho Florence Manyaapelo Mahlohla, and my dad is Khagiso Charles Manyaapelo and he lives at station road in Gugulethu. My mother and father divorced and its been a year. But it is okay....

2007:

Coming back to Rhenish was like being in a horror movie! I didn’t want to come back at all because I had had a lovely December holiday and the thought of school gave me butterflies in the stomach. But you cannot change things so you just have to get on with it!

I have many hobbies namely singing, dancing, switching of the lights at hostel (its very funny) making jokes and more. I am a very sporty person. My favourite sport is netball, swimming, netball, soccer and hockey and athletics. People would ask, how do I play netball, I’m too short! And I say “It’s not your height that matters its how you play the game.”

If I would describe myself I would say I’m matured, cute, sexy, talented, very beautiful, honest, trustful, friendly, sense of humor, humorous and very kind and respectful. I also get along well with everyone.

I would say I’m a very different girl to the others why....I have got little reasons... I’m not a gossip!

A lot of girls always think about boys and I hate thinking of one thing all the time.
I wish I was a guy instead of a girl but I still thank God for making me who I am.

My role model is Richard Mason, my mother and mentor Nqobsie.

Thats all I have to say about me. Thank you.

2008:

On the first week of school we had orientation week for Grade 8’s and the new educators we have at our school. By the second week it was back to a mad house, school work piling up, grade 8’s getting on their feet but most of all “4M” Interhouse Athletics was held. We always look forward to this event although we always lose but we believe one day, Rhenish will make history by winning the “4M” with flying colours and make history that will not be forgotten.

I am a member of a society called Siyaphambili. Everyone knows that if Siyaphambili are performing, you are guaranteed good sounds. In the past Siyaphambili was not really involved in functions happening at school now we make sure that we are always performing. Some of the events we have been involved in so far have been the schools’open day, where we performed for prospective new parents and their daughters. We were supposed to have gone to Rustenburg Societies, where all societies meet but we couldn’t go because our school always comes first and we felt the open day performance was more important.

We then sang at the Grade 11 Fashion Show, which is the best event of the year. This year it was really brilliantly planned. It was a huge success and we saw it as a privelige to be involved in it.

This year we had to say a lot of goodbye’s. I do not understand what is “good” about goodbye as I think they are really sad. We said goodbye to our Xhosa teacher, Miss Siwendu, our Afrikaans teacher, Mr van Aardt and our English teacher retired, Mrs van Zyl. Our very own Principal, Mrs Kleynhans also left on early retirement due to ill health. I wish them all success and happiness wherever they are. We will always remember them as Rhenishers.

The Rhenish Hostel: “A place to love, a place to hate, a place you can never escape”. Seriously, hostel is not a prison or an institution, but a home away from home. Living at hostel for three years has taught me a lot about life, namely respecting people around me, being responsible and a whole load of other things. The best time at hostel is when the Paul Roos boys come once a year to serenade us at night. It becomes a mad house because we are not used to having boys around where we live. We also enjoy our new DVD player and all the new improvements at hostel.

So, you see you don’t have to live with boys just to enjoy life, just look at me, I’ve been here three years and am still surviving the drought!

LATEST NEWS:

“The only way to deal with your fears is to conquer them”. This was my motto for the first term. So many people have shared their different views about their matric year. Some were terrifying and some were rather interesting. They all gave me hope.

The first tem was not what I had quite expected. It was not as difficult as I expected it to be, but all I need to do is apply myself more in my school work and keep up the good work in the subjects that I am strong at.

So much happened in such a short amount of space and time. I was elected to the Chamber Choir. This choir is more selective than the usual school Choir. We are about 12 members and not just anyone makes it to the group. I was also elected as Deputy Choir person for Siyaphambili (a cultural group), but I felt that I should turn it down because I had too many leadership roles and have to give others a chance. I am still a member though.

I was also chosen as a monitor. We make sure that the students do not eat or drink while they are in computer room during break.

The best thing about first team was Super Stars, a talent show we organised. What a success. We had an awesome time and the prizes were just as awesome too. Everyone enjoyed the events and responded well during performances.

I am looking forward to the next term. I will keep in mind and in heart that whatever I do I will remember my mother’s word:’ “Do your best, after all laziness pays off now but hard work pays off forever”.

Thank You to my donor, because of you my dreams are not only fantasies, but they will be a reality.
