End 2011 Report:
Hello, hope you have enjoyed your holidays. I am so glad that you are back again to read and learn more about what I do at school. This time I will be introducing you to my school world and also taking you through my school journal, so sit back and relax for I am about to bring you nothing but the best school entertainment during the last two terms, 3rd and 4th term at Camps bay high school.
3rd term is a term that is usually full of entertainment and so much fun but there is always school work that is not to be forgotten. This term we did so much and I did not want the term to come to an end because of the enjoyment. I told myself that this term belongs to me, I have been saying this for so long but this term I proved myself right. I participated in so many school activities and I must admit I have experienced a lot.
The first week of the term began with the matric ball coming up but before the matric ball, the same week , the world’s biggest science show came to our school, Hip2B squared. Everyone at school could not wait to be entertained by the company. We were then sorted into different groups. I was in the 3rd group, once we were settled down we were entertained by them doing acts, singing and dancing. After that they did a presentation showing pictures and videos on a slide show. We played so many exciting games. There was this tricky game that we did. A person was ordered to fold a R 10 8 times and we could not do it. Anyway the point or the aim of the game was to use common sense and not think too complex.
On Saturday the 23rd of July the matrics were having their last matric dance. I do not know where their matric ball was and how it was but all know is that they were looking lovely. Before the matric ball I was pressuring Nelisa, one of our scholars, to dress up.
In my Xhosa class, our Xhosa teacher told us that on this day she would not teach. I could see the acute on her face. We knew that she was not going to talk about something that was going to make us feel guilty. She wanted us to talk freely and say what was on our minds. She started talking about love, love for our friends, family and people around us, people that we live with and also the love for God and the love for the people who have left us. She began telling us a story of a grade 8 boy, who did his Xhosa oral about the loss of his parents. He mentioned that he learnt a lesson that his parents did not die to stop him from leading a normal life and not to make him feel inferior. That as a person you should learn to remember your loved ones with a smile on your face not with a sad face. I learnt a lot from that lesson. I learnt a lesson that we should learn to love and not to forget our loved ones in hard times and also to love each other and love God.
On the 23rd of August on Tuesday there were school plays held in the hall at school. The plays were delightful and exciting; I was filled with enthusiasm, I loved the way they mixed different languages with different races on one stage. It was so perfect I wanted to be on that stage too.
On the 27th of the same month on Saturday there was a Kay Mason Foundation workshop in Cape Town. The workshop was very enjoyable and we were introduced to mama Nandipha she was this vibey, energetic and fresh lady. She was so nice she made each and every one of us to make a pledge in front of all the scholars. The day was very hectic for me but my soul was cheered up by the cameras that were all over us. Natasha took pictures of us. Now that was very nice. I love being in front of the cameras.
At school as a tradition we normally have a RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) week performed in different ways or themes. This week in assembly on the 29th on Monday we were introduced to how the RAK week was going to be performed. This week we were supposed to be positive, friendly, kind, love those around us and also give them some love and smile at them. In our tutor groups we were asked to write good things we did this month and good things that we were going to do during the week on a small heart-shaped piece of paper. On my paper I wrote about what I did in Mfuleni, a township area that is not far from where I live. I wrote about what I did for the community. We built houses for the homeless and which I really enjoyed.
On the 2nd of September we had cross-country at school. I actually participated in the run again this year. I ran one lap, but after that, I could not take it anymore. I was just so happy that at least I did something at school. Even though the weather was not so nice, we managed to get our athletes on the field, including the Tom twins, they always run I am so proud of them they always convince and motivate us to run. It was not a race so no one won anything. If there were prizes won I would have gotten an award for participating. I just love winning awards.
The 9th of September was one of my best days ever. This day started with me singing in the choir in assembly welcoming the Italian visitors. In the evening the grade 11s held their fashion show. For this fashion show, I sacrificed everything just to watch the show. It was a great fashion show I have to admit but I assure you that our fashion show, which is going to be next year, will be the top of them all. Everyone will be talking about it because I will be modelling.
Earlier this term I bet my boarding house mates that this year will not end without me walking up the stage to hold and shake Mr De Korte’s hand, our principal, to receive an award. When I told them this they all thought I was telling a lie. On the 12th of September I proved them all wrong. I received an award for choir and for Xhosa, with some of the KMF scholars, in assembly. It was the best day ever.
On the 21st of September Natasha and Patrick came to our school and at the boarding house to interview some of the scholars. The next thing that I saw was a picture of Xolile on the new South African youth magazine. I was excited and sad at the same time because I wanted to be on the magazine so badly.
On the last week of school in my life orientation class we were given a community service form to fill in and do what was supposed to be done. For my community service I went to the KMF office to help with something. Mama Nandipha was so keen to help and she was so friendly. I enjoyed doing my community service with her.
Fourth term
I will be entertaining you with some stuff that happened this term. The term started with a hectic week, getting ready for the celebration which is held annually every fourth term. The celebration was on the 12 of October on Wednesday.
This time I performed in the choir, after I performed in the choir I was so excited and proud of myself when I walked up on the stage in front of the whole school and shook the hand of the governing body to receive my Xhosa award. I could hear the screams and claps from the audiences. I could see the joy and pride in Natasha`s face.
I was so excited to see the K.M.F scholars walking up on stage too. I am so proud of my scholars. Congratulations to Asongezwa who got an academic endeavour award, Khanya Gulwa who got an economics award and Desiree Kubeka who is now going to be our 2012 prefect. I wanted to cry so badly, it was not tears of sadness but tears of joy. Big thanks to Akhona, Cebisa and Natasha for being there to support us.
On the following day we had valedictory, it is held annually each and every fourth term. This time is when we say goodbye, when we see our matrics for the last time or spend our last moment with the matrics. This is normally a sad moment. People where crying for the matrics and I was one of them. I cried so badly especially for Nelisa because he was leaving us at school and at the boarding house. We wish him the best of luck in future.
At school I have definitely improved. We were given a big maths assignment. I asked Asongezwa to help me with it and he was so willing and keen to help. We then handed in our assignments, after a few weeks we were given back our results. I was so happy I got 82% for the assignment. My maths teacher was very impressed with us; he even mentioned that in assembly about how his class has improved in maths. It is so nice to be taught by a school principal, you feel so special.
On the 15th of November the was a parent workshop so obviously we did not go. My mom informed me about what was happening and everything they did. She told me the due date of the donor reports and she begged me so badly to do it and hand it in on time. It’s good to have a mother that cares for you. At school we were convinced to vote for Table Mountain in the Seven Wonders of the World. I did not have the faith that Table Mountain was going to win or even make it to the top two. I was so surprised when I heard it on Monday that Table Mountain is chosen as the winner of the seven wonders.
On the 12th of November we were called by Natasha, all the scholars, to go to Camps bay high school-, in school uniform on a Saturday morning. Natasha and Patrick wanted to shoot a K.M.F documentary for the donors. I was so excited and we took individual photos.
I have just started my exams for the end of the year. I started with business studies-my favorite subject. It was a good exam. I am sure that I passed it. The results are definitely going to change and I cannot wait to see the difference. I am also excited about grade 11, just cannot wait. I would like to thank the KMF staff for giving me the opportunity to shine. I ALSO THANK YOU for playing a big part in my life.
I hope you enjoy your festive seasons and have a blessed Christmas and New Year. Till next year we shall chat again.
WHO I AM:
I want to start by saying thank you very much for giving me the chance to have a better education.
On my first day at school I was so nervous and scared, but this did not last very long because the prefects were very friendly and accommodating, they introduced all the new girls to each other so they made the settling in process much easier. After a week had gone I had already made a couple of friends with fellow students and teachers who are very friendly as well.
I did not waste any time at all, I took part in as many aspects of school life as I could, playing basketball and netball, since I am a God loving person, I also joined the Christian society.
Academically I seem to be doing quite well, I am however not so impressed with some of my marks but there is next term to improve that.
Thank you very much for the help.
