End 2011 Report:

The third term started and everyone at school was excited to see their fellow classmates. This term wasn’t an exam term. I was very determined to do best in the subject that I had received low marks in last term such as mathematics. This term was 11 weeks long, which gave me a fair amount of time to get my assignments done on time and study in advance.

During this time I was elected by my drama teacher to perform at the Sea Point theatre whereby I performed a poem by Chinua Achebe called “Refugee Mother and Child.”  It was a great success and I received a high merit certificate for my performance.

The test week was around the corner and I had to catch up on a few things that I had missed in terms of academics. Therefore I spent my breaks at the library, catching up, doing revision so that I would be prepared for the tests. Tests came and they were pretty standard, even though economics was a bit harder than I had expected.

Even though this term was long it wasn’t exciting, as it should have been. I realised that a few of my marks had dropped and that wasn’t pleasing at all, and I vowed to myself that in next term I will do my best and work hard from the word go and that everything I do I would do it to the best of my ability, as I always strive to.

4th Term

The first week of school is the week when “Celebration” takes place. This is where the school honours pupils who have been working outstandingly throughout the year. This night is one of the most memorable nights of the year as we close the ceremony by announcing the prefects of 2012.

The following day was Valedictory whereby the matrics of 2011 were leaving the school to study for their final exams. There were lots of tears of joy and happiness as they left and we all wished them good luck.

In a few weeks time we are about to write exams and all the teachers are just giving us loads and loads of schoolwork and I am very stressed about that. I recently went to audition for the school`s marimba band and I got accepted and the announcement was made in front of the whole school.  In the same day I got my drama certificate for the Eisteddford poetry auditions.  As the time went by exams became closer and closer. On Monday the 14th of November it was my drama practical where we were given a theme called “journey”: we were to interpret the journey in our own unique and dramatic way. There were four groups one named: Rise, Kids, In The Round-The Wheel Hath Come Full Circle and then my group: Road Tripping.  Every group show ased different journeys and we were told that in our grade was the drama group and that no one got below 70% which is outstandingly good.

I have started with exams this week and they have been quite tricky, but at least I have prepared myself and I hope that the examinations that I still have to write will go smoothly including economics which is my weakest point. I hope for the best and wish all my fellow students the best of good luck for the final exams.

This holiday I am planning to go job hunting and work during these holidays since I am not going out of town like I normally do.

I would like to say to my donors and everyone else that is part of the KMF organization:  for supporting and helping me to better my education, I thank you for giving me such a privilege and may God bless you all.

Mid- 2011 Report:

The beginning of school was very exciting because I was officially a senior and had to step up my game academically. I saw my friends and teachers and met the new students from Grade 8. Everyone looked excited to be at school.

Academically in the first term, I did exceptionally well, except for Economics, which I struggle a lot with. The subjects I chose for this year are Dramatic Arts, Mathematics, Economics, Business Studies and Drama, because I would like to own a media company or be an actress. Drama is also very exciting as its a way of expressing yourself physically and mentally. I would like to be an actress or TV presenter in the short term because I like to make people laugh, but in the long-term I would like to be a business woman.

During the holidays, I went to church, visited friends in Thornton, had braais, watched movies etc.

The second term proved difficult as there was a lot of work before writing exams. Everyone knew they had to study hard in the June term. Maths was the subject I had to study the hardest for, and there is a lot of work given every day so if you miss a day, you are already begind. On the 18th of May, it was a special day in South Africa, because we had the Municipal elections. People voted for someone who is devoted to their work and takes care of needy people. You could vote from age 18 upwards.

The second term was very busy, but fun as well. I got involved in lots of activities, some sports as well as drama and a couple of community outreach projects.

Thank you to the KMF and my donors for allowing me to experience all of this!

LATEST NEWS:

This term has been good but it has its ups and downs just like other term.

There were a lot during the term but I see no point in complaining, life is after all, a challenge, it’s not the end of the world. I think that I did quite well this term even though I did not make the top fifteen but I believe that I will make next term.

This term I played basketball and netball as my sports, I actually play for the first team netball for the under fourteens. Life in high school is indeed complicated, not at all did I expect things to be like this, and the worse thing is that the seniors treat us like children, forgetting that we too are now in high school surely that means we are matured.

I really love my school, it has been a great experience since day one and I have been inspired to do well as far as my schoolwork is concerned. The teachers are very friendly, at first did not think that would fit in but to my surprise I have settled in very well.

Next term I will do my almost best to try and get better marks, I truly believe that I am capable to do better.I would like to say thank you to the Kay Mason Foundation for sponsoring my education.
