End 2011 Report:

The last two terms of 2011 have been a bit sad, depressing yet exciting for me. A lot has happened and some of it was good yet some bad.

During the third term we had our subject choice meeting at school and our parents had to come along. We were told about what the school expects from us next year and the pass levels for grades 10-12. The school also organised a camp for us to discuss careers and universities in detail. During the camp we were given a lot of career pamphlets and we had a lot of fun. We went through dark, scary tunnels and we had discos and fashion shows. We were also given the opportunity to get to know each other as a grade and we were motivated to work well together.

In the end my mother and I talked about my options and concluded that I am going to take Economics, Business and Accounting, which is formally known as COMMERCE, next year then when I finish high school I can take a bridging course in fashion design as I have a passion for designing clothes. School was a bit hectic academically as the workload was double the usual. Some of my marks went up and some just disappointed me and went down. My maths marks improved yet my Xhosa marks went down but all in all my marks were balanced.

At the end of term we received our reports and we were told about the last term and how much we must study for our exams.

The last term started and it was a very eventful term. We first had a celebration where awards and certificates were handed out to all the achievers of the year and the prefects for 2012 were announced. We were so happy to hear that Desiree Khubeka was also chosen to be one of the prefects for 2012 as we look up to her as our senior.

After the celebration we had our valedictory where we said our last goodbyes to our matrics as they were formally leaving the school to broaden their wings and brighten their futures in universities and colleges.

During the last term we only had 5 weeks to finish our syllabus and start with preparation for our exams therefore we had to focus a lot and do loads of work in so little time. We were handed our exam timetables a month before they started and they gave us our exam content to guide us as to what we must study a lot and what we must just browse through.

2 weeks before my exams started, on the 28th of October, a tragedy happened and I lost my grandmother. She was the closest to my heart and her death affected me tremendously as it caught me by surprise. She wasn’t sick or anything of that kind she just passed on. She was knocked by a bike on her way to work that Friday morning and died later when Nelly Tom took me to the hospital. The funeral was held in the Eastern Cape and we all had to go down there for 4 days.

A couple of days after the funeral I had to start my exams and I was still depressed as I haven’t lost someone that close to me before but I think I tried my best at that moment. I pray that God keeps me safe and helps me with these exams as I am going through a lot at the moment.

I would also like to thank you along with the Kay Mason Foundation for all the support and effort that you put into my education.

Yours faithfully

Mid- 2011 Report:

The year 2011 has been challenging, yet exciting for me thus far. It's a new year, new grade, a new class with double the workload and challenges than last year. Even though the workload is increasing, I am surviving. In my own personal opinion I think I worked exceptionally well academically as I produced an average of 63% for the first term. In this term I went up to 68% which I am very proud of.

I want to be a prosperous young lady in the near future so that I can give back to the community. I believe that when people fail to plan, they plan to fail which is why I have different aims for my marks each and every term as that's the only way I can plan my success right now. I also believe that not everyone is bound to be sporty yet I am not a couch potato. I just don't enjoy participating in any sports. But because I am still in the junior phase at my school I have to partake in a sport or a cultural activity therefore this year I have played netball and I have taken part in dance lessons.

Due to having a non-Xhosa speaking Xhosa teacher in the first term this year my marks suffered as they went down to 69% but thankfully the school found a new and fluent Xhosa speaking teacher who gave us productive lessons and now my marks are 89%. I was very proud of myself for being one of the chosen 20 to be in the top maths class for my grade. As a result of being in that class my maths went up to 82%.

During term 1, I failed science but this term I worked very hard and I passed with double the mark I got in term 1. My English teacher is a nice, fair and young lady that reads gracefully. She gave us an oral task to do on a SHAKESPEAREAN tale, A Midsummer Night's Dream, that I chose to do with my friend ANAM. Iwas Helena and she was Hermia and we aced that task, we both got 85% for it and it really helped boosted my mark to a 61% that I was very proud of cause since I arrived in Camps Bay High School it has been really hard to get such a mark in English as the standards here are very high.

At the start of the second term our classes had to be changed and I got very sad cause Iwas starting to enjoy my class.

At the end of the term 1, we were informed that there would be a girls only camp at the start of term 2 and we were all excited.

When the term started we got on with new work and in E.M.S we started with the basic of Accounting which I really enjoyed as one day I have dreams of becoming an AUDITOR a DESIGNER. We also started baking and sewing in our Technology class in preparation for next year.

Then camp time came and we started packing and getting all our necessities. It was a Friday afternoon and we took off to our camp site with a bus. We staying on the camp for three days and during the camp we learnt about how to take care of ourselves as young women, how to handle peer pressure, how to deal with boys and all sorts of teenage stuff. Personally this camp also helped me realize my strengths and weaknesses and how  I can improve my life.

A few weeks after camp was exams and I really enjoyed them as carefully planned my study schedule and that helped me tremendeously with keeping track of time during the whole examination period.

I would like to thank you for making it possible for me to attend such a great school that has such fantastic facilities......Thank you again and it's much appreciated.

WHO I AM:

My name is Enathi Ndaba. I am a very obedient child who has respect and I also love people irrespective of whom they are and where they come from.

The way I grew up and the family that raised me has made me the down to earth person I am today.  I have a family of five, my mother, grandparents, aunt and myself.  My family is not rich nor are we that poor but we are hard working people who do not give up or lose hope.

My grandmother used to walk to work because she had no money for transport, at times we would go to bed with empty stomachs.  Even today things do get tough because we live in an informal settlement with no toilets, electricity and no easy access to water; we have to share our tap with a couple of hundred of other dwellers.

Life is very hard at times but with the support and love that I get from my family I know that I can make something out of my life, I just have to be patient.  Plus, I am not one who gives up easily. It does of course get hard to keep hope, especially in the kind of environment that I live in, a lot of my peers easily give up because they believe that when coming from the area I live in you are only destined to being a gangster, they have no space to dream because they are surrounded by negativity, so it does get hard to believe when your peers are constantly negative about life.

I would not be the proud, self-assured and confident girl I am today if it was not for the love and support I get from my family, which is exactly why I will make sure that I fulfill my dreams in life and make sure that they will be proud of me.

The dreams that one has in life can only come to reality with hard work and patience. I want to be a living testimony to those who despair, those who do not accept their bad situation and end up nowhere in life with any dreams or aspirations. That is why I work hard on my studies to be someone I can be proud of and to pave the way for a bright future.

Thanks to the Kay Mason Foundation for granting me an opportunity of a life time.
