End 2011 Report:

Wow, what a year! This has been a wonderful but quick year. Even though it was fast I still decided to make the best of it. This year I was more dedicated and took part in quite a few things like the inter-house athletics at the beginning of the year and I did not make it to the inter-schools athletics but I have in store for next year.

Third was the inter-house cross country and I was excited for that and I nailed it. It was my first time running 6km but I ran it better than I ran in the 4km last year. I came 7th.  Enough about sport. Our school was collecting bread tags to buy wheelchairs for the people who need them but cannot afford them. We had to go around looking for bread tags then the interact group would collect all the bread tags, then they would be recycled. I really supported this; picking up and having people staring and asking me what I was doing that for, although I was a bit concerned about the germs I was picking up too.  By the end of the year there was enough bread tags bought to be able to buy wheelchairs.

Second term was the term of wonders for me, as I made it to the top ten of the grade for the first time. I was elated. At the end of a term at school they normally put up a list of the top ten, but they did not put it up which was something unusual. When they did and I saw my name on the list, I almost passed out, I could not believe. It was not a dream; it was all true. That was a big break, now I feel like I can do anything, I mean even swimming. Everyone was congratulating me: my friends, teachers, my mother, even people I never talked to.

At the end of the second term, KMF appointed 12 scholars to represent them at the Equal Education Summit that was held at the University of Cape Town. I had the privilege of being appointed as one of those scholars.  The summit was about promoting equal and fair education around the whole of South Africa, be it the rural areas, townships or the suburban schools. There were people from all over the country and the Minister of the Basic Education, Angie Motsikge, was there to listen to all the remarks made by the students and the teachers affected. I must say I had a good time and a good learning experience. I realised that I am fortunate to attend a school like Camps Bay High that has all the resources and the facilities required for students.

Well, the third term was not so glorious. We had so many different assignments to do and it was like the teachers were against us or they were scheming against us, because the tests and assignments all were due on the same dates. It was really hard to study and do projects at the same time; however by God’s grace I made it. We also had the grade 11fashion show which I could not come to because of transport but telling from the report back it looked good. We also had the inter-house plays and the best house orange (which is my house) won. Not only did we win that, but we won the best actress award which was great.

Fourth term started with a very busy week. We had the celebration on a Thursday and on the Friday we had Valedictory. I was so excited about the celebration, as I was to perform in the school choir and not only that but they were going to reveal the new prefects. On the day I also discovered that I was going to receive an award for economics so not only was I looking forward to perform but I was looking forward to the award too.

Unfortunately my mom was working late shift so she could not make it. My big brother came and the evening was a success. As for the prefects I was so glad when Desiree, who is one of the KMF scholars, was chosen to be the prefect. It was really a good image for the scholarship.

Recently I went to audition for Marimba and I was accepted, once again. Not only was I taken but my friends Asongezwa and Anella were successful too.

I am proud of the Kay Mason Foundation scholars because they engage in the school activities.

On Saturday the 12th November 2011 we were at my school to say THANK YOU but I just do not feel like it was enough, so I just want to take the opportunity to say thanks again.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year

Mid- 2011 Report:

I am in Grade Ten. I am a senior and no longer a junior. I couldn’t wait for this year and now it’s finally here. I have been told a lot of scary things about this grade. People have been telling me that the grade was hard but I kept telling myself that “nothing is hard until you have tried it.” I have kept my motto and it has driven this far, so with a prayer and commitment I am ready for this year.

I have chosen physical science, Economics, Accounting and pure maths because l love maths. When I grow up I want to be an accountant. The first term was the athletics term. We had inter-house athletics and I told myself that this year was time for change. It was time I got committed to my house. So I decided to do shotput, 800m, relay  and discus. Two days before the big day I stayed after school  and went to the gym so I could be ready for the big day. On the day we came dressed in our house colours and sports clothes. I soon found out that I was selected to run 1.5m too. So l ran and came last and for the 800m I came 5th and for the shotput I was 3rd. The relay started and I was leading but the second and third person got left behind so by the time the last person ran there was no hope and we came last. In the end Orange house came second. Red house was first.

The next week was the inter-house gala and the opening of our pool after renovation of the base of the pool. Which meant no more swimming for me because I am not good and now the shallow side has gone. So because if that reason I didn’t participate in the gala but I watched and orange house came second again.

We then had the Italian exchange which I wished I could go on but I couldn’t afford it. We had our holidays soon after the Italian exchange. Then we were back to school for two weeks before the Easter holidays. Everyone went to church, even people who hardly attended church because they believe that Jesus died and rose again, and I believe that too. Others know Easter to be a weekend you eat pickled fish.

So we were back to school and under a lot if pressure because there was a lot to be taught but very little time. We did ,however, still have time for  inter-house plays. This time Orange house came FIRST finally ,even though I wasn’t there to see our victory.

I have a Zimbabwean friend since grade 8 and she has never taught me her language until now. I begged her to teach me and now I am learning a new language, Shona. I love learning new languages because I feel much closer to a person when I know their language.

I wrote my exams and my results improved a lot. I am satisfied all thanks to the almighty God. We did community service as KMF by planting trees in a school in Mitchells Plain and it was my first time planting. It was fun.

We went to an adventure camp as grade ten at school which was great fun. I just want to say thanks a lot to God and to the KMF. May God bless each and every member of the KMF.

LATEST NEWS:

When I first saw the school I was so amazed because my previous school was not so big. Immediately I knew that the standard of work must be very high. Then I was like I’m finally going to attend the school I have always wanted to attend. People always told me about Camps Bay High. They said it was the best school in the Western Cape.

On the first day of school, I did not know anyone besides the kids in my transport. It was my birthday too. When I arrived at school, I was walking with my other grade 8 friend, so as we were walking, everyone was staring at us. I was so shy and scared. So we sat with the rest of the girls from our transport. The prefects came and introduced us to other grade 8 girls. So we all have become friends since then.

The teachers are very friendly. The first day most children did not know their classes, but the teachers and prefects showed them. My teacher asked me if I knew anyone in the class so I said no, then she pointed at the other girl and then said here is a friend for me. So now that girl is my friend. The teachers are funny. They also made a teachers’ concert. The teachers were acting and even singing.

I love sports. I play basketball, which is a summer sport, I also signed up for netball. So far we have not had any basketball matches, but in netball we played against Hopfield but we lost.

The most embarrassing thing that happened to me was when I ran into the wrong classroom, everyone laughed at me, so I quickly ran out and laughed as well. I was so embarrassed.

The camp was the best thing this term. Everyone came, we all enjoyed it. The worst part was the obstacles, when I had to swim through mud with a prefect throwing more mud on my back. I did enjoy myself though.

I did well this term, but I’ll have to do much better next term.  My marks are as follow:

English- 53%                            EMS- 50%

Math- 58%                                Arts & culture- 91%

Xhosa- 84                                  H.S.S- 56%

N.s- 65%                                    Tech- 72%

L.O- 67%
