End 2011 Report:
My third term this year started on the 18 of July, after a 3 week holiday which seemed rather too short. Day one at school was great. The day started with an unforgettable assembly then later got a big pink test and assignment calendar. The calendar contained all the test and projects that we needed for the term. By now term 3 looked promising.
This term brought lots of projects and tests since it is not an exam term. Most projects, well actually all projects make up 75% of your term mark, so much effort had to be focused on that. I enjoyed this term even though it was demanding. I prefer projects because you have to do your own research and I believe ypu learn far more better that way.
On the 16 of September, the grade 9’s embarked on a journey to Llandano for our subject choice camp. The day started with activities and games just to get us amped for the weekend while we waited for the bus to come.Camp was lots of fun and I still carry memories of it with me and sure every other feels the same.
Every year we have what we call celebration. This is an annual event that is sort of like prize giving butr with a bit of a twist. Celebration is held annually an this year’s one was amazing it was in the on the 20th of October. There was singing , dancing, acting and lots more. It was basically a night to not only show off our academic standard but our talents as well. The theme this year was fame. Therefore we sang and dance to songs from the movie fame which was a musical. My highlight of the night was when Desiree Khubeka, a KMF student, was announced prefect. That announced made my night.
A few weeks ago the KMF held a meeting for students only. At the meeting we met motivational speaker and life coach Sis Nandi. She welcomed us and told us about herself. She then took us through a slideshow that taught us how handle teenage life and academics. She spoke about things that could be possibly bothering us like peer pressure and how to cope with personal issues so that they don’t affect our school work. She was and still is a true inspiration and I really loved the way she interacts with us. On this workshop there was Natasha, Nelly and a teacher who also gave us words of wisdom.
I’d like to thank the KMF and the rest of the team for working together to ensure that I have a brighter future. Your efforts and work does not go unnoticed .
Mid- 2011 Report:
My first day as a grade 9 learner started on the 19th of January 2011. The term started when I was staying with my mom and it was scary because I had to take a bus for the first time. I kept thinking, what if I got lost, what if I took a wrong bus, all those scary thoughts were running in my mind and just then, I started missing the KMF bus, wished that it would magically pop out, and pick me up.
In February, we had inter-house and inter-schools Athletics that were great because I saw some people running, people whom I never thought can run or even care about doing something for the school. For the first time in years, Green house won the cup and Orange house won the spirit cup. I was one of the many whom were sitting on the stands, mainly because I cannot run nor do high jumps and some other things.
Then the fun time ended and it was time for work again. I spent most of the term sleeping little because there were just too many projects and most of them were due at the same time.
My favourite time of the year was the plays time. A lot of effort went into the plays. The lights, sound, and stage were all set up in a new and interesting way. The best play was Orange house’s play; it was very funny.
The following event after the plays were the annual Westerford Derby. This year it was held in our school and Camps Bay rugby team and Westerford rugby team and other sports on the line battled.
The other sports are Hockey, Netball and Rugby. However, the best game is always the first team rugby match. In addition, this year our first team rugby boys were not the only team that won, we had tons of teams that won and that was the best.
Then it was June Exam time. This year the Exams started a bit early and I must say I find Exams very difficult, because they are the very stressful. My drama and my Xhosa marks improved a lot and I was pleased with the outcomes.
I would like to take this moment to say my thanks to every one who is funding my education and say thanks to the KMF and my donor.
WHO I AM:
My name is Sinazo Faith Kwaza. I live in Khayelithsa. I was born in Cape Town, Groote Schuur Hospital in 1996. I am a twelve year old Xhosa speaking girl. I have short black hair, black eyes, I’m a bit short and I have feet that never seem to grow. I am very ambitious, vibrant and I always strive for the best in everything I do. My hobbies are singing, dancing and watching television. My favorite music is R&B and gospel and I love comedies.
My role model is none other than Nelson Mandela; he inspires with his powerful words of wisdom, he has shown the world that when united we can change, not just South Africa but the entire world. One day I would like to be a well-known businesswoman with my own company which will not only make a profit, but a difference in the lives of ordinary South Africans. I would also love to act in Hollywood alongside great actors such Angelina Jolie, who knows? I might just be the next Charlize Theron. When I have no homework, I like to play with my dog Mashy, she is so adorable and sweet, she always cheers me up but she does get a bit wild at times.
I have a big family, although I don’t have any siblings but I have four aunts and a young cousin, the oldest of my aunts is married and lives with her husband and their one year old baby girl. I live with my grandparents and my aunts. My grandparents are pensioners but they take good care of me, and Mashy of course. I don’t see my mother that often because her place of work is quite far from where we live.
The area that I live in is not so suitable for living. People live in shacks, with bucket system toilets, and the drains are always leaking out sewage causing an unbearable smell. Crime is also another major problem, with people getting mugged, house breaking and hijackings.
I go to St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Wynberg, I am doing grade seven and it is my last year in junior school. My favorite subjects are English, Natural Science, Economics and Life Orientation. I find Natural Science very interesting because I get to learn about nature and we get a lot of projects which is fun. I also enjoy doing drama; I want to be an Oscar winning actress after all. My school is quite old; we celebrated our eightieth birthday last year, so this means we have a lot of traditions to uphold and rules. One must always be at her best behavior and not bring the school’s name into disrepute. I have enjoyed the 7 yrs I have spent at my school and now those years are coming to an end which makes me both sad and happy because I will be leaving behind friends and close teachers, but I’ll also be starting a new chapter in my life and gain new friends.
