End 2011 Report:

The third term started on the 18 July 2011 and it started off with the teachers loading their pupils with work. When the students finally got into the “working mode”, which was round about in the second week of the term, they were told that the grade 11 pupils who do biology and physical science as a subject had prepared tasks that were going to be presented at the science expo. The science expo  took place on the 27 July 2011 in our school at both first and second break and anybody was allowed to view the magnificent projects that had been presented by these grade 11 pupils.

During the third term we also had the start of Ramadan. This is a sacred month for all Muslims and during this time they normally fast for 29-30 days. This is a period where Muslims do not eat from sunrise till sunset. For some Muslim pupils it was difficult because they had to cope with work and sport too. Not all Muslim students had a problem. I can take myself as an example because I did my schoolwork, homework and also I went to sports training in and out of school. I also carried on with social life as usual, but not everybody is the same I guess.

It was then announced that we were going to have our winter sports photo’s taken. Only people who played first team were allowed to be a part of these photos. Fortunately for me, I played both first team soccer (U19) and junior (U16), so I was part of the soccer photo.

As time passed so did the days and just like that it was the end of Ramadan. As we all knew when Ramadan ended, in the Muslim faith they celebrate this day after they finish fasting and this day is called “Eid”. On this day people wear the most fancy clothes and have the best of hairstyles. Unfortunately this is only a one day event.

On the 9th and the 10th of September our school hosted its annual grade 11 fashion show. It was a spectacular event and the participants looked stunning. They got sponsors from all over and really made the evening a big success.

Staying on the topic of success our school also held a “BATTLE OF THE DANCE CREWS” which was much better than expected. Dance crews from all over the area participated and the participants varied in ages. There were children that were 5 years of age and also older people of 20 years of age all dancing together. All in all a group by the name of “STATICFLOW” (who were entered by a girl in our school) won the competition. Personally I think they really deserved to win because all their moves were done at the same time, in one motion and they also had rhythm. Even though their competitors in the finals were good, they were better and they won the competition fair and square.

As grade nine pupils we faced a subject choice meeting. Here we were told about the different subjects, what each subject required and the marks needed to get into that specific subject. We were then told that our subject choice forms had to be taken back to school. We were only allowed to choose three subjects and our four compulsory ones which are English Afrikaans/Xhosa, math literature/pure math and life orientation.

The subjects I have chosen are pure math, physical science, CAT and music and the other remaining compulsory ones.

After being told about all the different subjects the grade nine pupils embarked on a camp to the Apostil Battery in Landadnoe. The camp took place from Friday the 16th of September to Sunday the 18th of September. At the camp we did plenty activities and also had some bonding sessions. We were surprised with a disco, a movie and also some interhouse competitions. One of the competitions was the interhouse talent show.

When returning from camp, it was time for us to receive our reports. Many of us were very nervous because we might have dropped in some learning areas. After receiving my report I saw that I have dropped in a few subjects but also improved in some. I was a bit sad at first but then realized the term was done and became happy because it was holiday time.

The fourth term started on the 10th of October 2011, which is also my birthday..(: ..The fourth term started off rather well because all of my friends wished me a happy birthday. We also had the starting of I summer sports. Pupils that took part in water polo, basket ball, cricket athletics and many sports started practicing during the second week of the term.

We also did some work but revised most of our work for the upcoming exams. Most of our teachers would ask what which pert of work we struggled in and then helped us with that specific area.

Oh yes.. When we arrived at school our grade nine camp slide show was shown to the entire school in assembly. It was a combine slide show of the grade nine and grade eight camps.

There were not many other events that happened this term because we are all preparing for our final exams. We are still busy writing and we are also very nervous for our marks.

… I JUST HOPE THE BEST FOR EVERYONE INCLUDING MYSELF SO THAT WE ALL PASS WITH THEGREATEST OF MARKS…Thank you so much for your support.

Mid- 2011 Report:

My name is Faakirah Basadien and I am a grade nine pupil that attends Camps Bay High School. My donor report will be inform you about all the activities that have taken place during the 1st and 2nd term at school, my academic results and the latest sporting results.

There were many activities that took place in each term. During the first term we had an academic assembly for the matriculates of the previous year (2010), in this assembly the matriculates of the year before receive a certificate and a small gift of appreciation. Steve Harris also spoke to us in one of our assemblies.

Our inter house athletics took place which participated in. I ran 100m and placed 1st, 200m and also placed 1st, high jump and placed 3rd, long jump and placed 4th and our relay team placed 3rd.

For the first time we had a basketball clinic. This was a day were we had to do basketball training for the entire day from 8am to 5pm.in the fourth week of the term we had our first official prefect assembly, this is the assembly where prefects speak to the school about what they wish to accomplish during the year

Our pool was being renovated since last year, so in the same week as our prefect assembly we had the opening of our new pool. To celebrate the pool we had an assembly beside it. This was one of the funniest assemblies because our principle and gym teacher could not decide who should be the first person in the pool so both of them jumped into it. The inter hose gala was held straight after the opening of the pool and once again GREEN HOUSE WON...On the 2nd of March we had a career evening and as a grade 9 pupil I had to attend it to see which career or profession I might be interested in.

Our summer sports photos was taken on the 15th of March and on the 16th of March it was our math’s Olympiad. I participated in it but it was not as easy as I thought it would be.

Our school was the host of the hope field derby so all the matches were played our fields in the hope derby only summer sport is played except basketball. Unfortunately none of the pupils who only played except basketball had an opportunity to play. Finally on the 30th of March we set off for Port Elizabeth, this is where our soccer tour was held. We had one girls’ team and two boys’ team. The girls did really well and made it to the finals but lost 2-1. The senior boys also did well and won the league, but unfortunately the junior boys lost and never made it to the finals. This was amazing experience for me because this is the furthest I have been from home and because it was a time spent with my close buddies. Our team really got to know one another better and we got many surprises on the way. We were treated to a night at spur were all our food was paid for by a sponsor.

It was then the end of the team and our reports had to be collected by our parents or guardians. My guardian went to fetch my report and was pleased with my results. There was only two subjects that I got lower than 70%, for mathematics I got 95%; music 85%, social science 84% and L.O Afrikaans, Technology 70%. This was then the end of the first term and the beginning of our holiday. When the second term began we were introduced to our winter sports. We had to sign up for the sport because it’s one of my favourite sports and because I enjoy doing it. We played a few matches this term already and I was one of three juniors who were chosen to play in a match with the senior girls. Our school also hosted the Westerford derby but this time it was played at their home ground. We won a few matches and also lost some matches as well. Our teams did fairly well and tried their best and also played to the best of their abilities but at the end the best terms won.

Where academics are concerned we really had a lot of work to do. On each subject we had a ton of work and also homework. We also had some changes to our sets so it meant that was going to be some new children in our class but luckily there was no changes made to our set. We had just finished our exams and our teachers are returning our scripts back for us to check if right and that all our totals are correct. We only have a week or left before it is our school holidays and we get our reports. My donor report has now finally come to an end and so has the activities that are taking place at school this term.

WHO I AM:

My name is Faakirah Basadian I attend St Paul’s Primary School and I am in grade 7 in Mrs Abraham’s class. I am a Kay Mason Foundation student. I attend the enrichment classes which take place on Saturdays. This is my second term in the programme and still find it very interesting doing all the work taught there .  We learnt some of the things at our normal school . Our teachers are still the same as the term before, but we do revision as well and then work we have learnt in the past term.

We still have a test on new work but go over work we have done. Our English teacher’s name in the KMF Enrichment Class is Mrs E van der Heyden. She teaches us lots of things in English like adverbs . They modify the verb or add on to the verb.   We also learn about finite verb and participles .They are also known as helping words. Finite verbs complete a sentence. Participles  just help a verb complete a sentence. An interesting fact is that without a verb there is no sentence. Then we come to our tenses. There are 3 different kinds of tenses : they are present tense, past tense and future tense. Present tense tells us about what is happening now, past tense tells us about what has happened or what had already taken place, and future tense tells what will happen.

In Maths we learn lots of different things like integers. In integers we can add, subtract, multiply and divide positive and negative numbers.  We learn about dividing by fractions.   We also learn about multiplication and division of numbers.  This is about what we do on a Saturday morning at our Enrichment classes and I am very excited to see what happens next term at our Kay Mason Foundation classes.

I would like to say thanks to the Kay Mason Foundation, thanks guys.
