WHO I AM
Hi, my name is Nono Pongolo and I was born on the 18 August 1988 in St. Monicas hospital. I live in Langa, a very small township were almost all the poor people live in. I have got a mother who’s single working hard by herself. And my mother has two children which are my brother and I, by brother is 7 years old and I’m 15 years old this year.
I have been in Bishops for 2 years now and I’m really enjoying it. Bishops was my dream school to be and Mr Jeremy Norman and Mr Derek Frost made my dream come true and I want to say thank you about that not for the last time forever. As I already told you above I have been in Bishops for 2 years now Bishops has changed by life in many different ways.
I almost enjoy everything at Bishops especially sport, socials and subjects. To play for the 15”A” cricket team is a fortune for me at Bishops because you become more popular, good and well recognized and sometimes you will be called a jock which means a lot to me. The other thing I like about Bishops we socialize a lot that I can meet more friends and some “hot girls”.
In academics I have set myself a goal that I must/should beat other class mates at least in half of my subjects. I have always set myself a goal in life which is success / succeed. All the subject at Bishops are my best and I am doing my best to pass all of them.
Bishops is my best school because since I got there I was easily accepted by almost everyone in my house and in the whole school.
Again I want to say Bishops is the best especially if you are the boarder the team work of the house, co-operation, accepting each other’s backgrounds and giving respect to each other. Boarding is the best because you learn how to live by yourself and how other people live. Boarding is quite cool because there is this special tradition from days boys. The thing I like about boarding is you live with lots of different people who don’t think the same but do co-operate.
I will encourage lots of people. If you’ve got a choice between boarding and day boy you should become a boarder because boarding is more carrying, team working and so and all and all.
Again I want to say thank you to the Kay Mason Foundation for giving us an opportunity to show the world that we can do it, not forgetting Richard Mason, Nqobsie Mkhwanazi and others. Thank you very much for what you have done for us, we appreciate it. I hope all of the guys are proving to our sponsors that they aren’t wasting their money on us.
Thank You.

WHAT I WANT TO BE
It was in 1988 when another boy was born for the Pongolo family, which was named Nono Pongolo - me! As a child growing under those conditions you wouldn’t understand what was your mother doing to get you food during those days. When I was growing up I started to realize my mom was working hard for my family to have a nice meal every day, to grow up not knowing who was your dad was saying something to me because I didn’t want to ask my mom because I knew she was struggling by herself with the person who is called daddy.
When I was getting older and older I realized that mom was working for me to go to school so that I can learn and become someone in life, which she really did struggling without support from, daddy. When I went to Bishops I said to my self this is the chance to became a rich man and repay all the things that my mother had done for me.
First I wanted to be a Specialist doctor for quite a long time and I started to realize that there is a better job that you will make money more than a specialist doctor, which was an Architect (a building designer) but still I didn’t want to be this, I came up with a better one, a Town Planner, which I liked the best and become successful on it. I also wished that after I finish at university I can go overseas and carry on with course to be with world’s best Town Planner.
I always thought that to become a famous or rich person is to work hard and that’s what I have been trying to do, to impress the people whose hearts are full of love to sponsor other children who their don’t have that amount of money to pay for their children to go school like Bishops - one of the best school in Cape Town.
I believe that my money will be spent on supporting the KAY MASON FOUNDATION and not forgetting my mother who had been with my whole life right next to me when I cry she comforts me when I need help she helps me.
Lastly but not least I would like to say thank you Richard Mason and Nqobsie Mkhwanazi. Now I can become someone in life because of you, I really appreciate it.
May god bless you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MY FIRST TERM AT BISHOPS
My first term at Bishops was actually quite good because I met new friends easily which were coming from lots of different schools like Western Province, Sacs, Wynberg and so and on. The thing I like about Bishops is you meet with new friends easily.
On the first week of school I was bit confused but now it’s easy because you get used to work and the teachers. On my first day at Bishops I thought I was going to be a drop out because I wasn’t that clever to be at school like this but I said to myself hang on a minute it’s not that hard here at Bishops you first need to concentrate a lot when a teacher is talking.
My first term was cool because I said to myself I won’t let my parents down on this opportunity so I must work hard and I did on this first term by passing all the other subjects except for science which I have been struggling for almost two years now, but I said to myself I won’t give up I will keep on struggling until I get right one day.
I am playing cricket in summer were I made the A team which was my dram to play for Bishops cricket A teams. This term was my best because I didn’t score any ducks. I performed well not letting my team down at any moment whether I am batting or keeping or fielding for the very first time. I am going to Pretoria with the U/15”A” cricket team. Sometimes I just want to thank the Lord at everything I succeed on because these people who gave me the opportunity to come to school like Bishops. I don’t think if they do know if I am with it and I won’t let them down.
This term was good for me when I saw my mark report that I have passed. I was very happy and so do my family. I almost came half way true on all the other grade 8’s because the others know their parents got lots of money so it doesn’t matter on them if they fail because they aren’t on bursary or scholarship like me who will be kicked off the school if I don’t perform well enough in academics.
This term was hectic when I first met my new house master and the matrics who will be in charge on us and my first ever Herschell High School social were I met lots of girls and we spent half a day with them. Meeting the guy who accepted me at the school was more fun and we heard a chat we my mom and I.
Anyway my first team at Bishops was hectic, funny, hard working, sad sometimes and good overall. Thanking all the teachers who cared about me to perform well in my academics and sport.
THANK YOU ALL
