Lesedi Mogoduka

WHO AM I?

My name is Lesedi Nogoduka and I am 16 years old. I am currently in grade 11 at Livingstone High School. My school subjects are English, Afrikaans, Biology, Accounting, Math and Physics.

I enjoy reading magazines, motivational books and teenage novels (fiction). I read because I believe reading always helps me to relax physically and mentally once I’ve had a hectic day at school or helps me to unwind whenever I feel down. One of my favourite authors is Francine Pascal, because as a teenager I can relate to her stories.

She writes about everyday life including friendship, school and factors, which mainly influence teenagers. Motivational books motivate me to strive for the best and try to achieve my goals through hard work and determination. Reading is also an aspect, which improves my English tremendously.

Socialising is also one of my hobbies as I am a friendly and outgoing person. I make friends easily because I am a talkative and outspoken person. I have good communication skills, which I believe will take me very far in life. I normally socialise when I’m at a party or a friend’s get-together. Socialising helps you to get to know other people much better; it helps you to learn more about different kinds of people and their ways of life.

During weekends and holidays I normally go out with friends, either shopping, movies, party and clubbing. I enjoy comedy movies and my favourite actors are Eddie Murphy and Sandra Bullock. Shopping is one of my favourite past-times. I also like sight seeing in Cape Town.

My goals for the future are to become a Chartered Accountant because I enjoy working with statistics and numbers and I am also good at it. My favourite subjects at school are Accounting and Maths. One day I would like a job in the Accounting field where I can be happy because I have a passion for Accounting and I’ll be able to give of my best because this has been my dream since I was a young girl.

I would also like to travel the world , to meet different kinds of people and learn more about diverse cultures. To me other places around the world fascinate and interests me , the historical places , tourist attractions etc. I want to see other beautiful places around the world , I want to experience another life in another part of the world , basically I just want to broaden my horizon.

One day I would like to write an autobiography. To share my life story with others and maybe influence others by letting them know in life you have to work hard to achieve your goals. I want to share my hardships which I’ve had to endure in life and obstacles which I’ve had to conquer. Every year I keep a diary and I’m hoping that this will be my reference.

I believe that I’m a very responsible and kind-hearted person. I’m a hard worker and a go-getter who has many dreams in life. One of my weakest points is the fact that I am very impatient and many people say I like things to go my way and that I’m very much controlling. I try to overcome my weak points by focusing on my strong points but no one in life is perfect.

I believe that I’m a person who lives life to the fullest and one day hopes to be successful in life and be a role model to others.

FIRST TERM

I am currently in grade 11 at Livingstone High School. My school subjects are English, Afrikaans, Physics, Biology, Mathematics and Accounting.

Grade 11 is a little bit tougher than last year but I’m sure if I work hard and co-operate with my teachers then I will pass at the end of the year. I didn’t experience much of a change because my class of last year is still the same and I even have the same class teacher as last year. This year the only change I’ve had to adapt to is being in a higher grade. Every term we write controlled tests for each subject and my results are as follows, Accounting 97%, English 80%, Biology 75%, Afrikaans 65%, Physics 53%, Mathematics 53%.next term when we write controlled tests again, I’m hoping to do better because I’m not entirely satisfied with my Physics and Mathematics mark. I plan to study harder and because I seem to struggle with these 2 subjects but I’m hoping things will get better once I seek help from my teachers and mates and study harder.

For the past few weeks I’ve been involved in the Junior Achievement Mini-Enterprise Programme. I heard about the programme from my guidance teacher and I signed up my name for participation. I was chosen as one of the representatives from Livingstone. The programme is held at Rustenburg Girls High School every Wednesday from 4 till 7. We have been divided into groups of 10 people each forming a company, I am the financial manager of my company, I chose this position because I believe that I am a good candidate as I am responsible, trustworthy & enjoy working with numbers and statistics. At J.A. we are taught business skills, how to start our own companies, marketing, selling and buying shares etc. The name of my company is called Venom Kiss because we are selling lip-ice which we have produce ourselves. Being part of such an organisation has given me the opportunity to understand what business is all about and now I have a better perspective of life in the business industry. It has also given me the chance to work with other people, to make new friends and at the end of the day hope that my company will make a profit.

The grade 11 classes were supposed to go to the District Six museum as an English excursion. I was so looking forward to go but unfortunately the outing was postponed because the museum was fully booked. In English we are currently reading a book titled “Buckingham Palace, District Six”, So by going to the museum we would have a better understanding of the book. District Six is a place in Cape Town which was declared a White Area during the Apartheid years. This book is very educating, funny and enjoyable and I would recommend it to anyone.

I participated in a human chain which is against war. Many pupils from my school including myself drew up placards and stood at the main road supporting Anti-war. I agreed to participate because war is wrong and I’m totally against it because people are dying and suffering. My poster read “Hoot for peace, make Love not War”.

For the 1st time at Livingstone, the school population was allowed to attend the inter-school athletics meeting. Previously only the athletes who participated were allowed to go to the stadium. It was so exciting to be able to go to the stadium and support our school. The school usually tried to make it up to us by letting us have inter-house meetings since we were not allowed at the inter-school meeting. I was not an athlete because I’m not really good in sports and being a cheerleader suited me just fine. The only disadvantage was the fact that it was unbearingly hot that day but we had fun. I was singing and cheering for my school until my voice faded away. There were about 12 schools at Greenpoint Stadium and Livingstone came in 6th position. I enjoyed the day while it lasted and I’m hoping that next year it will happen again.

At livingstone we did not have a school hall, we usually had our assembly’s and programmes in the school quad. Last year construction and building of the hall started. In the 1st term there was an opening of the hall and all the pupils were excited to finally have a school hall where all our programmes will be held.

Mrs Hendricks who has been the principal of Livingstone High School for approximately 18 years has retired. It was sad to hear that she was leaving because she always strive for the best for her school and pupils. Mr Visagie who was the deputy is now declared the new principal of Livingstone and I wish him luck for the forthcoming years.

The 1st term went by quickly, I’ve adapted & adjusted in grade 11 and looking forward to the next term. I hope the next term will be filled with exciting activities and hope to achieve more things next term as this term I was settling in and adapting to the new grade.
