End 2011 Report:

Term 3

Things are going well for me at this moment in time. I found a job at the mall on weekends

so I began to pay for my martial arts again and again I swamped with school work but playing guitar and doing martial arts relaxes me and helps me get through the hard things.

It was Ramadaan this term which meant I had to fast one whole month. During this period I abstained from sports to maintain energy and stopped martial arts for this month. At the end of the month I felt spiritually enlightened and ready for anything.

Rugby is not as much fun as it used to be but maybe next year I’ll do better. We started the physics part of science so I am glad about that. Our grade went on a leadership camp for a weekend. It was so much fun and I learnt a lot. The second night at camp I hardly even slept. Some of us stayed up whole night by the fire just talking.

This term it was the grade 11 fashion show and I opened the night. I was so nervous that I was shaking in my boots (I really wore boots for the military scene). I put a lot of practise into it and it was fun but there were also arguments and fights in the group but we managed to sort it out and put on a night that will not be soon forgotten.

Term 4

This term was hectic. We started the term with five weeks before exams with a lot to get through. Teachers were stressing but we got through the whole syllabus before exams and now we are right in the middle of exams. I started studying four weeks ago and just finished a 6 hour study session now.  I don’t really do sports right now because I am too stressed about exams. I can’t really say much about term 4 because it is pretty much just preparation for exams and now writing exams.

Thank you for your support. It keeps me going through this testing time, as I know you have faith that I can achieve my goals.

Mid- 2011 Report:

Term 1

Grade 11. I did not know what to expect. This was supposed to be the hardest grade yet and the marks for the end of the year were to be submitted to university.

I was soon swamped with work and did not have a life of my own. So I started getting counselling at school and the person that was counselling me taught me how to play guitar. It was just what I needed to relieve the pressure of school. I started feeling better and feeling more confidence. Counselling helps me in all aspects of my life.

From then on I knew 2011 was going to be my year and therefore wanted to make the most of it so I found a job working as a waiter on Saturdays and started martial arts. I had to quit my job because I had too much work but my mom agreed to pay for my martial arts training. Now I feel like I am on top of the world.

I made it in to the top ten academically but my marks weren’t as good as I would have liked. I also made it into my school’s athletic team. I felt so proud of myself.

Term 2

I came back from the holidays refreshed and ready to take on anything. Then I found out that we will be doing more chemistry for the next 3 months but it was also rugby season so I pushed through.

Exams came and went, a very stressful time but I realised why grade 11 is so tough because my marks were not up to my usual standard and I became afraid that I would not make it in to university.

However I will work better now than ever before in my life. I just want to thank you for this opportunity.

WHO I AM:

My name is Ismail Latief and I attend Camps Bay High School. I live in Bo-Kaap in Cape Town.

I am very interested in Science and Technology. I mainly think about how the world has changed and what it will become in the future. My hobbies are watching movies, riding bicycle, socializing with friends and learning new things. I’m a bit shy at first, but once you get to know me, you really enjoy my company.

I hope one day to become a chemical engineer, structural engineer or scientist (still deciding!) and make my father and my mother proud. My favourite subjects are Mathematics, Science, Life Orientation and Computers. I love computers. My favorite sport is rugby. I don’t really watch sport. I more like to play it. I want to learn how to swim and then I’ll do swimming and play water polo in summer.  I also want to do archery and want learn some martial arts. As you can tell, I am very active person.  My favorite soccer team is Manchester United.

I just want to achieve something in life and become successful so that one day I can take care of my family and they can be proud of me.

LATEST NEWS:

This term was great.  I am really settled in and I started playing rugby.  I really enjoy it.  I think it is the best sport ever, even though I had never really played rugby before.  I now am learning the sport.

Everything is easier.  It was a formal examination term, and this was the only difficulty I had this term.  I’m trying my best, but everything is just going so fast  (I mean time!).  My academic results are better than they were last term and I almost made the Top Ten list.  I missed it by 0.6% because my average was 73.5%.

I’ll try to work hard next term in order to achieve more than what I achieved during term 2.  My struggle was the workload, but I am coping, and finding my true passion and talent.  My teachers told my dad that they are very impressed with me.

I just hope to achieve my goals and make my parents proud.
