End 2011 Report:
The fourth and final term of grade 11 has flown by. I worked very hard this year and I am really looking forward to the holiday period.
My main focus for this term was obviously preparing for the final examinations. Due to the limited time available, I had to make a lot of sacrifices and concentrate solely on my school work. Completing all the work in such a short space of time was a very big challenge for me. I attended after school classes about twice a week and sometimes during weekends in order to fit in all the work. The after classes were very time consuming but it was also a big help. In Business Studies, we covered the most work this year, despite this term being the shortest. Every day, we were introduced to a new section in Business which was hectic, but also interesting at the same time. Business Studies remains my favourite school subject and I will continue to pursue a career in or related to that field.
I am still doing lots of research on a possible career. One option that stood out for me was Information Systems. This career interests me because it involves the use of computers and also requires knowledge in business which also happens to be my favourite subject. Many people get confused when they ask me what career field I’m interested in. They often confuse Information Systems with Information Technology. They are related but Information Systems is a professional career that requires the use of Information Technology. I am not entirely sure about this career but it is definitely an interesting one. According to my research, I.S. managers, analysts etc. are in high demand. I will do more research during the holidays to find out more information.
I was also chosen by the school to be a prefect for 2012. This is definitely one of my biggest achievements at high school. I understand that being a prefect requires a high level of responsibility and leadership and I am looking forward to the challenge ahead. Being a prefect is also a big opportunity for me to improve on my leadership qualities which will be beneficial in future. I started with some of my prefect duties this term and I learnt a lot. At first, I was very nervous but now I enjoy being a prefect. I look forward to attending school and helping fellow prefects in leading the school by example. Since I’ve been chosen as a prefect, I have become more confident. It also gave me the opportunity to meet and work with new people.
I also entered for the English Olympiad that will take place next year. My high school career is coming to an end and I am trying to make the most of the opportunities that I get. I’m sure that the English Olympiad will be a very exciting experience for me. I will also be able to see some of my primary school friends who will also be attending the event.
One of the highlights of this term was Radio KFM’s visit to my school. They were doing live broadcasting from South Peninsula High and they were also handing out free items to the students. One of my favourite DJ’s, Ryan O’Connor, was also present and it was great to see him at school.
I would like to thank the Kay Mason Foundation for helping me throughout my high school career. I really appreciate all the advice that was given to me at the motivational workshops. A big thank you to everyone who sacrificed their Saturday’s in order to help the KMF scholars. I am looking forward to the new year and working with all the KMF members again.
WHO I AM:
My name is IMRAAN ADAM. I am 14 years old. I live in Grassy Park, Cape Town, with my parents and my sister. I attend South Peninsula High School and I am in Grade 8.
I enjoy travelling to school and socializing with other people. My hobbies are reading, drawing and listening to music. I am also interested in playing football and one of my dreams is to watch my favourite team play in England. My favorite subjects are English, Geography and Maths especially because I enjoy solving problems and facing challenges.
My goal is to pass matric with a good result and to go to university. I would like to obtain a degree to become a Chartered Accountant. I will work hard from a young age to achieve the best. I realize that it is very hard to find a good job today and if I strive toward my goals, I could live a more comfortable life. I know that if I work hard and try my best, I will have a good and successful future.
LATEST NEWS:
The second term went well and much better than the first as I knew the school. The school work this term was more difficult and challenging. I really enjoyed this term because I made even more friends and played much more sport this term.
I also read a few books this term and I really enjoyed the mysteries by Malorie Blackman. I always enjoy reading her books because she uses the same characters which make my imagination flow.
I improved my academic marks this term and I also made it for the merit list for Grade 8’s of June 2008.
This term I entered the Math’s Olympiad at the University of Cape Town. It was a challenging competition but also fun because I met many of my primary school friends. I know that next term the work will be even more challenging and much more difficult but I will work even harder to achieve the best. I plan to spend more time academically next term, to learn more in order to fulfill my goals.
